What is Asperger’s?

Asperger’s is a mild form of autism. Asperger’s is a disorder of the autism spectrum, and doctors suggest that this syndrome being diagnosed as a sliding scale of autism.

What are some symptoms of Asperger’s?

Some of the main symptoms of Asperger’s is that the person suffers from OCD which is something common with this symdrom. Asperger sufferers can lack emotions like empathy and not be able to fully understand other people’s emotions and actions such as sarcasm.

Some of the physical symptoms of Asperger’s is that the person will be clumsy and some personality disorders making social situations with people difficult.

Children who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s will be very talented in one particular area like music or math.

Some Children with Asperger’s will have some unusual reoccupations or rituals such as getting dressed in a specific order, every time they get dressed.

When are children diagnosed with Asperger’s?

Generally boys are effected more than girls and are diagnosed with Asperger’s in elementary school. This is the time when symptoms become more noticeable and obvious. These children generally have above average I.Q.’s but because they lack the social skills of the other children they are sometimes thought of as being “weird’ by their peers. A lot of the children who has Asperger’s end up getting teased and bullied in school.

Can someone with Asperger’s lead a normal life?

Yes for the most part they can. A person who has asperger’s will suffer from not being able to have a meaningful relationship with other people, or new people. Because they are not able to relate or understand the other persons emotions it makes this incredibly difficult for them to communicate and have a meaningful relationship with them. Even during a short conversation someone with Asperger’s will begin to really talk about themselves a lot and possibly even sound like someone on a rant. This is because they are not capable of understanding others emotions, body language, and hold a long conversation with them.

Even though Asperger’s is similar to Autism there is notable differences between the two. Children with Asperger’s can function better than those who have autism. Children with Asperberg’s have a general and average intelligence opposed to autistic children.

What Causes Asperger’s?

There is no exact cause known for creating Asperger’s. It is thought that it could be inherited because generally it will run in family.

How Common is Asperger’s?

Asperger’s has only recently been recognized as an individual disorder. There is an unknown number of people with Asperger’s because of this recent update. It is four times more likely to occur in males than in females and generally is first diagnosed between the ages of 2 and 6 years old.
